Watchung sits on the ridge above the Somerset plain, about twenty-five minutes from my Neshanic Station studio, with the Watchung Reservation and Best Lake giving it more usable open ground than its size suggests.
The Watchung Reservation is the main asset here — woodland trails, water at Surprise Lake and the Deserted Village of Feltville, which gives genuine historic structures inside a public park. The ridge itself means elevation and, in places, long views east. For real estate work the hillside properties present the usual challenge of steep approaches and difficult exterior angles, which is worth planning for rather than discovering on the day.
