Chester is a Morris County borough and township about half an hour north of my Neshanic Station studio, with a preserved main street, working farms, and Hacklebarney State Park just west.
Main Street Chester is one of the better-preserved historic streetscapes in the county and photographs well in most weather. Hacklebarney State Park gives ravine, river and rock — dramatic ground, though the terrain is genuinely steep and not suited to every session. The farms around the township, Alstede among them, put open field and orchard within a few minutes of the centre, which suits autumn family work particularly well.
