Montgomery Township and Skillman sit about twenty minutes south of my Neshanic Station studio, on the rise toward the Sourland Mountain and just north of Princeton.
The Sourland Mountain Preserve is the best ground in this township by some distance — boulder fields, heavy woodland and real elevation, which is unusual for central New Jersey and gives family and portrait work a genuinely different look. Rocky Hill village to the south is small, historic and tight. The area sits close enough to Princeton that sessions often combine the two, which is worth planning as one visit rather than two.
